GUJI Designed Flooring Collections

wabi-sabi (侘び寂び)

Inspired by the traditional Japanese aesthetics, wabi-sabi (侘び寂び) is a world view centered on the acceptance of transience and imperfection. Usually related to rhythm, and grounded in simplicity the design style is well connected to nature. Clean lines, natural palettes and minimum style are a few features that define the GUJI collections.

The Wabi-Sabi philosophy behind GUJI collections, aims at creating Zen aligned by the guidance of seven design principles.

Kanso (簡素) Simplicity
Fukinsei (不均整) Asymmetry or Irregularity
Shizen (自然) Natural
Shibumi (渋味) Simple beauty
Yugen (幽玄) subtle grace
Datsuzoku (脱俗) escaping from habits
Seijaku (静寂) tranquillity, stillness or solitude

The GUJI collections are named by the principles:
Engineered oak floors: Shibumi, Shibumi-Oki and Wabi-Sabi.
Hybrid floors: Yugen and Seijaku.
Laminate floors: Kanso.

Wabi-sabi celebrates the imperfect and transient nature of the world, and GUJI engineered oak floors, with its natural grains, knots, and subtle variations, captures this philosophy beautifully. Each plank of timber tells a unique story of the forest, highlighting the passage of time and the beauty of imperfection. This connection to the natural environment not only brings warmth and character to a space but also evokes a sense of harmony and tranquillity. By embracing the authenticity and natural wear of timber flooring, we honour the essence of wabi-sabi, creating spaces that are serene, grounded, and in tune with the natural world.
